Confederate Reunion

The following item appeared in The Chipley Banner on March 11, 1899:

CONFEDERATE REUNION.
Headquarters
First Florida Brigade, U. C. V.
Pensacola, Fla., Feb. 22, 1899.

General Order No. 4:

The Brigadier-Gen. commanding announces that the second reunion of the First Brigade, Florida Division, U. C. V., will take place at DeFuniak on Saturday the 18th day of March, 1899. With a graceful courtesy the president of the Chautauqua has designated this day as Veterans’ Day. The veterans will have charge of the Tabernacle from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We will have distinguished speakers to address the veterans, besides other exercises which will be interesting. Comrades lets have a grand turn out and honor the memory of our dead comrades, and stimulate a deeper interest in the objects of our noble organization.

A regular program will be arranged and carried out at this reunion, embracing the election of a commander for this year.

The commander would urge upon the camps to take immediate action in electing delegates to represent them, and to work up an interest in the meeting so that West Florida will have a grand time. The rates on the railroads will be extremely low, and the train all arrive on time.

George Reese,
Brig-Gen. 1st Florida Brigade.
W. L. Wittih, Adjt.-Gen.
