The “Old Murray Home” was built on land purchased from the DeFuniak Land Company. (3) It was built in 1889 and was first located next to the Episcopal Parish House. It was moved sometime before 1907 to its current lot and was repositioned on the lot in 1986. (1)
The house was originally owned by Harry Murray and his wife. Mr. Murray owned the first theater in downtown DeFuniak Springs. [The theater was located in the former Fisher Hardware building on the corner of 7th Street and Baldwin Avenue.] (2) It is also said that Harry Murray was the Fire Chief and a manager of a restaurant. The house remained in the Murray family until about 1984 when Dennis Ray purchased it. (3)
