The following item appeared in the Richmond Dispatch on July 4, 1886:
Yesterday at Defuniak Springs, Fla., Independence-day was celebrated with the grandest ceremonies and largest crowd ever assembled in Florida. The gray and blue mingled in doing honor to the day.
