Betty Ann Campbell
Betty Ann Hogans was born January 3, 1944, in Ponce de Leon, Florida. She was the daughter of Alonzo Jackson and Cleopatra (Hogans) Brown, who both preceded her in death. She lived in Ponce de Leon in her early years attending school in the Walton County School District. She graduated from Tivoli High School in 1961. She continued her education at Florida A&M University, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. Betty Ann went on to marry her high school sweetheart, George Campbell, in 1963, and God blessed them with three sons. Through her family, she continued laying down a legacy that will remain strong forever.
Betty Ann pursued her degree upon graduation by teaching for the Walton County School District in Florida. In 1972, Betty Ann and her family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she continued her passion for teaching and guiding others, working in childhood development centers. She continued this passion until retirement as Program Director from Sunnybrook Day Nursery in 1993.
Betty Ann was a selfless woman who embodied the scripture "Give, and it will be given to you" Luke 6:38. She accepted Christ at an early age and became an active member of several ministries at Calvary United Methodist Church in Detroit, Michigan. These ministries included the Chancellor Choir, Ad Board, Pastor Parish, United Methodist Women and the Finance Committee. Betty Ann loved to travel (extensively with her club "The Traveling Six"). She also enjoyed gardening, singing, and worshipping. You could always catch her sitting on the porch, taking in the sights and people-watching while sipping a nice cold Coca-Cola beverage. Most of all, Betty Ann loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Family was more than blood to her. She lived her life following the scripture 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself' Matthew 22:39.
Betty Ann touched everyone's life that she came across. Between her infectious laugh and her wide smile that never fell, it was hard to resist her. No matter who you were, she treated everyone with the same tender, loving care they deserved. She was virtuous, a confidant, and a true woman of God. Her words of wisdom were quiet yet landed loudly to all that confided in her. Her legacy will never be lost but only celebrated for many generations.
Betty Ann Campbell was called home on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. She is preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Whitley.
