1919 Aug 21-- Last Saturday night, Sunday and Sunday night, 5 members of the Lundy family,W A, the father; Pete, Thomas, Joe and Charley, sons were arrested by county officerscharged with the murder of John Mitchell, 32 yrs of age. It is reported that the deadman married a daughter and sister of the Lundys and there has been considerable illfeeling. The body of Mitchell was found about 4 miles from town, last Saturday andas he was last seen in the company of one of the accused they were placed under arrest.A Preliminary trial was held on Tuesday before Judge Mathews and the case was con-tinued until Thursday, Aug 21st, the 5 men charged with the crime being removed tothe county jail at Andalusia. This Mitchell is said to be a brother of the man of thesame name who was killed at Charlie Carter’s last Christmas. *Word has been received by J M Reid of the sudden death of his old friend, Mr GeorgeNunn at Hamilton, Canada on Sunday morning the 10th inst. Mr Nunn suddenly expiredin church at the close of the communion service while talking to some of his brethren.Mr & Mrs Nunn spend last winter here at the home of Mrs J B Cawthon. *The remains of Mrs Eliza Byrd, 90 yrs of age who passed away at her late home inEtowah, Tenn. last Thursday afternoon (August 14, 1919) arrived in this city last Sunday for intermentin the family burial plot in Sandy Creek cemetery. Deceased was a resident of Waltoncounty years ago. She was mother to John & James Byrd and Mrs B S Renfrow. *The list of Confederate veterans is gradually diminishing until but a few remain. Thelast to answer the final taps was Mr J B Parker, residing about a mile south of town,whose death occurred Tuesday morning.
