Gertrude Jackson

Mrs. Gertrude Jackson, age 90, of Freeport, Florida, passed away April 3, 2008. She was born September 29, 1917, in Portland, Florida to Horace and Millie Pippin Godwin.

Mrs. Jackson had been a lifelong resident of Freeport; she was Methodist by faith and a member of the Freeport United Methodist Church. She loved to cook and take care of her family. Her passion was raising her sons. She operated the Freeport Grill Café; she also worked at the Freeport School in the lunchroom as a cook and later for Dugger’s Restaurant for 17 years.

Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter E. Jackson, one son Walter Edman Jackson, three sisters Odessa Godwin, Ethel Dunaway and Velma Brown, four brothers Fred Godwin, Clifford Godwin, Herbert Godwin and Ray Godwin.

Mrs. Jackson is survived by her six sons Raymond Taunton and wife Jene of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Keith Taunton and wife Marie of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Harold Taunton and wife Faye of Davenport, Alabama, Danny Taunton and wife Wilma of Danville, Alabama, Paul Taunton and wife Donnie of Boaz, Alabama and Ray Jackson and wife Diane of Freeport, Florida, one sister Orene Knight of Freeport, Florida, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation services will be conducted at 6:00-8:00 PM, Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home, 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 7, 2008 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home, with Reverends Harold Taunton and Raymond Taunton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Black Creek Cemetery.
